editorial services
Whether you’re polishing your manuscript, preparing for a competition, or seeking feedback before pitching to agents, I’m here to help you elevate your writing to its fullest potential.
As a horror and fantasy writer myself, I know the dedication and effort it takes to craft a compelling story. I spent years refining my debut novel, Red On The Inside, before it was ready for publication. I understand the doubts and challenges that can arise during the editing process, and I’m here to offer expert guidance, encouragement, and a supportive hand throughout.
English Fluency Editing
Since relocating to Sweden, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of the unique challenges non-native English speakers face when writing for an international audience. That’s why I offer English Fluency Editing—to help you polish your manuscript and ensure that language nuances, grammatical structures, and cultural references resonate authentically with your audience. Whether you’re struggling with tense consistency, idiomatic expressions, or sentence structure, I’ll work with you to make your writing as clear and compelling as possible.
I also specialize in assisting with manuscripts that have already been translated into English. If you're working with a translated text, I can help refine awkward phrasing, resolve tense issues, and correct inconsistencies that may arise in translation. Having read many books translated from Swedish, I know how essential it is to preserve the flow and authenticity of your story post-translation.
Genres and Specialities
While my primary focus is horror and fantasy, I’m open to working across a wide range of genres. Whether you're writing romance, sci-fi, non-fiction, YA, or middle-grade fiction, I’m happy to lend my editorial expertise to any project.
If you're looking for an editorial partner who understands how genre conventions influence storytelling, I’m here to help you craft a manuscript that aligns with your vision. Beyond genre, I offer detailed feedback, a fresh perspective, and a collaborative approach to help you take your manuscript to the next level.
All services are offered via email, providing you with maximum flexibility and convenience.
Manuscript Assessment
With this service, you’ll receive a detailed, comprehensive report on your manuscript’s strengths and weaknesses. I’ll evaluate key elements such as plot development, character arcs, pacing, and more. You'll get actionable feedback to help you identify areas for improvement and strengthen your story. The turnaround time for manuscript assessments is 2–4 weeks.
Before we begin your manuscript assessment, I'll ask you a few questions to better understand your writing history, goals, current challenges, and expectations.
I will then thoroughly assess your manuscript and send you a PDF report (5-7 pages) covering key elements of the text. This report will outline what works, what doesn’t, areas that need improvement, and my personal response to your work.
Key Areas of Analysis:
Plot and Structure, Characters, Style, Language and Writing, Exploration of Themes, Target Audience and Marketability, Reader Engagement
Genre-Specific Elements (for Horror / Fantasy) - World-Building, Imagery and Atmosphere, Pacing and Tension, Themes, Tropes, and Symbolism
English Fluency Editing
Perfect for non-native English writers and translated works, this service focuses on enhancing sentence structure, improving clarity, and ensuring your text reads naturally to native English speakers. The goal is to polish your writing while retaining your authentic voice. It’s not just about perfect grammar, but about making your text idiomatic, culturally appropriate, and easy to read for an English-speaking audience.
Suitable for full-length fiction novels, short stories, or other creative writing projects. I can edit your manuscript according to UK or US English standards, depending on your preference or target market.
Writing COaching
This one-on-one coaching is perfect if your goals are more general and not tied to a specific project.
Whether you’re looking to generate ideas, develop character voices, overcome writer’s block, or refine your personal writing style, I can offer focused support. I’ll also help you set clear goals, track your progress, and stay motivated. Weekly tasks will be assigned to help address the areas you wish to improve, with personalized feedback provided throughout the process.
Why Work With Me?
With a background in speculative fiction and my debut novel set for publication, I deeply understand the writing journey and the challenges of crafting a story that resonates. As a writer of horror and fantasy, I bring specific expertise to those genres, offering feedback that is not only constructive and motivating but also highly relevant to the unique elements of your story. Whether it’s world-building, pacing, or genre-specific tropes, I can help ensure your work stands out in the crowded horror and fantasy markets.
My feedback is tailored to meet your specific needs as a writer, focusing on areas that matter most to you.
I hold proofreading and editing qualifications from Knowadays (formerly Proofreading Academy) and have been certified as a proofreader through Urban Writers. In addition to my qualifications, I’ve worked as a writer for various blogs and magazines. I’ve also been longlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction and the Mslexia Children’s & YA Novel Award.
I hold a Classical Civilisations degree from King’s College London, where I also studied English during my first year before focusing exclusively on Classics.
What People Are Saying
“Your feedback was well organised, thoughtful and most importantly, actionable. All of those things I knew were there but thought no-one would notice? You noticed. Every. Single. One. And you gave me a solution. Not that the solution was always appreciated (I did at times groan, knowing that I had to knuckle down and do the research after all - and that the writing of this particular story wasn’t over yet) but it was accurate and right. Rather than feeling over-whelmed, I now feel focussed and excited. I know what needs to be done and I know when I do it, this story will have risen to another level. Thank you so much for that.”

“I sought Elizabeth’s manuscript services because I’d edited my novel several times and couldn’t see what else to do with it but knew it wasn’t quite ready. Her feedback was thoughtful, constructive and clearly structured. I was very impressed with the way she grasped what I was trying to say and identified the themes of my novel. Whilst highlighting the positives, Elizabeth identified areas such as pacing and subplot that could benefit from further work and made useful suggestions for me to consider. Her report left me feeling positive and enthused and with ideas for how to approach a final edit which is exactly what I needed. I would highly recommend this service if you’re looking for a thorough, professional assessment of your manuscript.”
